We’re delighted to welcome the Under 17 Car Club to our What’s On line-up this year. Not only will they be exhibiting across the weekend, they’ll also be demonstrating their skills live in the main arena, giving visitors the chance to see exactly how they prepare young people to become safer, more confident drivers.

Recently, Liz (our Chair) and Izzy (our Secretary) visited the club at MOD Lyneham, where they saw the programme in action. They were shown around by one of the young drivers – just 15 years old – already calm, capable and impressively experienced behind the wheel. It was clear how much confidence and skill these young people develop before they even turn 17.

Who Can Join?

Young people can join from 11 years old, provided they can safely reach the pedals and see clearly over the steering wheel. That makes this one of the earliest structured driving development opportunities available in the UK.

How It Works

Sessions take place on private land, providing a safe, controlled environment for learning. Young drivers:

  • Drive with their parent or carer in the vehicle
  • Have access to professional driving instructors
  • Follow a structured training framework designed to build skill progressively

This approach builds practical driving ability while also strengthening communication and trust between young people and their families.

Experiences Available

This isn’t just about learning to steer and change gear. Members gain access to a wide range of practical experiences, including:

  • Manual and automatic driving
  • Night driving
  • Hazard perception and theory preparation
  • Brake and avoid techniques
  • Advanced driving skills
  • First aid awareness
  • Rally days
  • Driving HGVs
  • Driving buses
  • Supercar days
  • Confidence building and teamwork

Yes – supercar days. All delivered in a safe, structured environment.

Why It Matters

By starting early, young people develop strong vehicle control, understand risk and responsibility, and approach driving with maturity. When they reach 17, they are not overwhelmed beginners, they are prepared and confident.

As a charity, the Under 17 Car Club is driven by a commitment to improving road safety rather than profit. After seeing their work first-hand at MOD Lyneham, we can confidently say the quality of instruction and professionalism is exceptional.

Visit Their Stand

Across the weekend you’ll be able to:

  • Watch arena demonstrations
  • Speak directly with the team
  • Learn how membership works
  • Ask questions about joining

If you have a car-loving 11–16 year old at home, this could genuinely transform the way they begin their driving journey.
