What is a Silent Auction?
A silent auction is a fundraising event or auction where items or services are placed on display for participants to bid on silently, meaning without a live auctioneer. Participants write their bids on a piece of paper or use an electronic system. The highest bid at the end of the auction wins the item. Here’s a more detailed look at silent auctions, including their benefits, how they work, and tips for organizing a successful one.
How Does a Silent Auction Work?
- 1 Item Display: Items or services for auction are displayed on tables or online platforms. Each item has a description, starting bid, and minimum bid increment.
- 2 Bidding: Participants write their bids on bid sheets next to each item or enter their bids electronically. Each new bid must be higher than the previous one by at least the minimum increment.
- 3 Closing the Auction: The auction ends at a predetermined time. The highest bid on each item at the close of the auction wins.
- 4 Payment and Item Collection: Winners pay for their items and collect them. Payments can be made immediately or arranged for later, depending on the event’s setup.

As part of our show in 2024 we introduced our first Silent Auction. Looking forward to our new dates in 2025 and our extended show over three days we again are organizing a Silent Auction to raise funds for our chosen charities, and we need your support to make it a success.
